Universal:
Term or idea
that represents an entity that is or may
be the same in different conditions or contexts. Whether there
are any universals, and if so in what sense, has been much contested
over the centuries. The definition proposed seems sensible and
adequate,
though it does not cover in its extension
all that one might expect, since, for example, electrons and atoms are
universals in the defined sense, since they are supposed to be, and
naturally behave as if they are, quite the same if of the same kind,
apart from time and place of occurence.
