P.S.
1. Introduction
I keep being unwell, and even though today is
a bit better, I may make it a bit easier for
myself while pleasing a few if I do another
translation of one of the columns I published
in Duch 21 years ago. The former two were ME + me :
Real science & real psychology = joy
and "Mandarins
with an IQ of 115", in which
you'll find some more background (also in the
links supplied).
As I noticed before I have been very active
for over 32 years with ME, except that my
activism, so to speak, "didn't do ME",
but instead was very much concerned about the
decline of civilization, the decline of
education, and the ruining of the
universities.
The reasons for this were mainly that I was
very much concerned and indignified, and that
I had concluded some 32 years ago that what
ailed my ex wife and myself - who both fell
ill with Epstein Barr in January 1979 - was an
unknown medical disease that needed discovery
and scientific explanation, for which I do not
have the right education myself. Moreover,
when I learned in 1989 of the existence of ME (this was before the
advent of the atrocious term "CFS"), I
was mostly reaffirmed in this, having learned
that my ex and I had all the symptoms, that
meanwhile had not yet found an explanation.
And I
also did not know anything about Wessely's
pseudo-science, that indeed got just
started then, nor about
the CDC or much else, there being no
internet.
That is why I did and wrote and spoke
as I did, including the creation of a student
party called NASA (*),
that indeed got elected with one seat in the
University Parliament of the University of
Amsterdam, although I didn't take the seat,
being too ill for doing that, with ME I didn't
yet know the existence of, and with an ill
wife, and two simultaneous studies.
As to the University Parliament of the
University of Amsterdam:
After a legal change in 1971, supposedly
meant to stop giving cause to student's
unrests, demonstrations and occupations of
universities, all Dutch universities were
administered by a Board of Directors, like a
government, under the aegis of a University
Parliament, the members of which were
students, staff members, and ordinary
personnel, on the principle of 1 person 1
vote, in yearly elections, where the votes
went to various parties or fractions, all with
their own programs, like political parties.
Moreover, this very same model was repeated
once more - like city governments and city
councils - on the level of the faculties of
the universities, where there were again
yearly elections, not on the same date as for
the university parliament.
This system lasted from 1972-1995, after
which the law was changed again, and at long
last the universities ceased to be the
absolute fiefdoms of academically "qualified"
members of the Dutch Labour and other leftist
parties, who had been in its boards,
faculties, and parliaments all these years,
securing professorships and lectureships for
life, for themselves, their maoist friends,
and their feminist girlfriends, and effectively
destroyed the Dutch universities as real
universities, as real institutions for
research and education, and made them
into places for very well-paid high status
jobs for political careerist in leftist Dutch
parties, and for heavily politicized,
ideological teachings in a university that
form most of those years had as official
developmental plan and aim and reason for
existence, as its five-year plans (!)
said:
University of Amsterdam's Developmental Plan
and central aim 1981-1986:
"the furthering of the interests of the
trade unions movement, the environmental
movement, and the women's movement".
Yes indeed: That was what Dutch universities
were supposed to exist for; to be doing; to
orient and select their research by; and to
make the substance of educational courses in
all faculties.
I did not agree (etiamsi
omnes, ego non), but then I have
since found I have a dysfunctional belief
system...anyway: please keep in mind
that I wrote these and other things while
ill with ME, and while being very actively
discriminated for it, year upon year,
for I have been removed, thus or so, three
times from the University of Amsterdam, each
time while being ill, and always "because of your outspoken
published ideas", as its Board of Directors
wrote me (*) and
because nobody could beat me in spoken or
written argument.
And this happened to no one else in
Holland since WW II ended, and all my
complaints, about anything whatsoever, have not been
answered in any way by any of the officials,
boards, institutions, parties, politicians,
district attorneys, judges, ombudsmen, you
name it in Holland, except for the fact
- as happened once or twice - for the witten
reply that
"because your language is disrespectful,
we shall not answer you"
(Mayor
Patijn of Amsterdam, in response to my
complaints that drugsdealers dealing illegal
drugs with his personal permission had
threatened my life).
For background see my Laudatio
Neerlandica , Why my
family was in The Dutch
Resistance in WW II, and

reactions to me (two from thousands similar
ones) see me: On Dutch Hypocrisies

Yahooism
& democracy
As the thoughtful student of
the works of England's
greatest anthropologist Doctor
Lemuel Gulliver knows, the
greatest part of the empirical
studies of humanity of Doctor
Gulliver have been burned by
his biographer J. Swift or
(with assistence of W. Disney,
Ph.D., F.R.S) been reworked to
watered down children's
stories.
It is
therefore with some proper
prode that I can now reveal
that in the inheritance of the
family of the Dutchman
Theodorus Vangrult - the
captain of "the Amboyna of
Amsterdam" with which doctor
Gulliver returned after his
voyage to Laputa - a
manuscript has been found,
written in the hand of doctor
Gulliver, about Lindalino "the
second city of Laputa", that
was briefly described in ch. 3
of the immortal "Voyage to
Laputa" ("a country much
like Holland, especially if
one considers the dullness
of its inhabitants", in Dr.
Gulliver's words). [0]
For
reasons of space I can,
unfortunately, quote merely
a single passage about the
UfA, the university of
Lindalino, that may not be
wholly devoid of some
instruction or merriment.
After having explained how
he came to Lindalino, the
the learned doctor continues
as follows:
[1]
Human
beings are rationalizing
animals, ideological apes - or so they
would be, if they had not,
by the good grace of our
dear Lord, a rational soul.
It is by means of this
rational soul that men find
what small measure of
happiness is allotted to
them, since it enables them
to move their attention from
solving real problems to
indulging in the sweetest of
dreams and delusions,
thereby greatly contributing
to their felicity if not
their well-being.[2]
The truth
of this general proposition
I found strongly confirmed
in the city of Lindalino,
which is largely given to
the study of science in its
municipal university, that
goes by the name UfA, and to
the practice of democracy,
by which the Lindalinians
mean that anyone of those
unhappy mortals who is not
quite like the rest is, in
his or her own interest,
terrorized until he or she
is just like anybody else,
or dead. [3]
The
Lindalinians must be among
the most curious and
happiest people on earth, a
state of affairs they owe
largely to their miraculous
democracy and to the genius
of two of their greatest
thinkers, the illustrious
doctor Fraud (soul-healer)
and the eminent professor
Cant (philosopher). [4]
Although
the Cantian teaching is so
obscure that it can be fully
understood only after a
prefrontal lobotomy (that
incidentally also greatly
contributes to one's social
popularity and to the degree
of democracy), which,
because of its markedly
liberating effects on
thinking is only permitted
to philsophers, for who it
is mandatory, it may be
explained simply in its
purpose and effect. [5]
The purpose
of the great philosopher
Cant was to provide everyone
with a philosophy, that is,
a set of sophistries and
illusions to make the
miseries of life bearable. [6]
Seeing
that there are at least 3500
religions, all equally true;
100s of philosophies, all
equally intelligent and
informed; and 100s of
political plans, all equally
sensible, the illustrious
Cant concluded that
1. Truth does not exist
2. Everybody is equal
3. All societies are
equally rational and
equally good. [*7*]
The
Lindalinians hold that these
immortal doctrines greatly
contribute to universal
happiness: Thanks to Cant,
even the most idiotic creed
cannot be false; even the
most stupid fool may become
a well-paid and honoured
political leader; and even
the most cruel government
may claim its own human
excellence. [8]
Especially
when combined with
Lindalinian democracy - all
are equal or beheaded - this
provides enormous chances on
emancipation (= careers,
riches and prominence, in
Lindalino) for the great
majority of human beings,
which is why Cantianism
finds great democratic
support. [9]
However,
although the great Cant saw
deep, he did not see all,
and in particular he was
blind to that kind of
deplorable human perversity
that insists that some
doctrines are more probable
than others; and some
societies more pleasant to
live in than others. [10]
It is
here that the immortal
Fraud, who was a specialist
in human derangements, made
his invaluable
contributions, which may be
summarized by the following
three propositions:
1. All humans have great
problems, especially if they
don't believe this.
2. All human problems can be
solved by studying Cant and
paying a Fraudian half of
your income, unless your are
young and attractive, in
which case therapeutical
miracles are wrought on the
couch, by administrations to
a member of the Fraudian
brotherhood.
3. Whoever refutes Cant or
Fraud thereby proves the
truth of these doctrines.
[*11*]
The
results of these teachings
on human happiness and
civilization, in Lindalino,
are great and salutory and
are called Yahooism ("with a
human face") i.e. what we
English sometimes call
Humanism. [12]
Yahooism
is completely tailored to
the human needs, the human
qualities, human attitudes
and human strengths, of the
Lindalinians, and in many
ways a straight, if popular,
offshoot from the immortal
teachings of Fraud and Cant,
and may be illustrated e.g.
by the practices in the
university of Lindalino. [13]
The
Lindalinian university UfA,
which means, in English,
perhaps surprisingly for the
naive, University for
Asslickers, which -
anthropologists will neither
be surprised nor be
scandalized to acknowledge -
is the most respected
democratic habit, in
Lindalino, as it is the only
way to become loved and
appreciated there, or make a
career. [14]
The degree
of asslicker is the only
academic rank the UfA
provides: it means that the
candidate has completely
perfected his social and
scientific talents, and is,
as it is called, a
full-ranking ASS:
Arselicking Supreme
Specialist. [15]
The Ufa is
totally democratized, and
mainly committed to socially
relevant teachings and
practices, that can be
democratically understood by
all, like Careerism,
Pedophiliacs, Lesbopolitics,
Clinical Psychology and
Emancipation. [16]
Real
science is hardly practised,
because, so Lindalinians
hold, it is undemocratic and
elitarian, and because the
Lindalinians consider it not
socially relevant, in
Lindalino, in which they are
wholly right. [17]
The Ufa,
being completely
democratized, has elections
every other week because, in
Lindalino, it would be very
undemocratic if one
discriminates between people
who know something and
people who don't, and
because scientific questions
are most satisfactorily
decided by majority-voting,
in Lindalino. [18]
Nobody
learns anything but socially
relevant subjects like
Masturbatology (Applied,
Theoretical and Empirical:
"Anything
worth doing is worth doing
well", as is written over
the entrance of the Royal
Academy) which is one reason
all students of the UfA are
very contented. [19]
Also, the
UfA is primarily given to
Emancipation (= Careerism,
democratized) which is what
especially the students and
their party (called the ASFA
= Association for Students's
Financial Advancements)
desire, and which is
completely democratically
guaranteed by giving all
(and only) prominent
ASFA-members a job in the
university, and the rank of
ASS honoris causa, as a
reward of their emancipatory
activities. [20]
Much of
the time of the students in
the UfA is spent in socially
relevant activities like
voting and fighting with the
police, for the Lindalinians
have instituted the great
practice of what is called
revolutionary folklore: As
soon as 50 or more
young Lindalinians
don't feel well about
anything whatsoever (but
preferably something
happening elsewhere, faraway
on the globe), they start
killing each other in a
stadium that the Lindalinian
government has thoughtfully
provided for them, or else
go to the center of the city
and start destroying it. [21]
Since this
is all folklore anyway, and
since the Lindalinian police
is remarkable effective in
protecting the wares of
shopkeepers, nothing more
important is wasted than
human lives, which, in
Lindalino, are without
commercial value anyway. [22]
All in all
life in Lindalino seems very
happy: As noone knows
anything, noone feels
troubled by anything; as
everyone is equal or
equalized, noone feels
discriminated; as every
society is equally good and
rational, the Lindalinian is
best, the Lindalinians
proudly hold. [23]
And so its
three classes of citizens
seem to enjoy their days in
happy profligacy and
pleasant emptiness: The
common people are glued all
day to their dream-box - a
Lindalinian invention, on
which the most stupid
Lindalinians (which are, in
this markedly democratic
society, those who, for
egalitarian reasons, are
loved and admired most) may
be seen all day playing the
most inane games and killing
each other without cease for
no reason at all, to the
great interest, benefit, and
instruction of all viewers;
the intellectuals are
greatly admired, by
themselves, for discoursing
lengthily and
incomprehensibly on
absolutely nothing at all,
and proving it with an
accuracy of 7 decimals, by
which they find great fame
and riches; and the
government consists without
exception of titled
intellectuals (ASSes Minor
and ASSes Major, with two or
more degrees). Of
course,....... [24]
...and
here the manuscript ends. Thus
far then the learned Dr.
Gulliver, without whose
contributions to anthropology
(written down by ghostwriter
Swift, unfortunately only
partially, as we just saw)
mankind would have had a far
smaller understanding of its
own characteristics. Alas, it
has not yet been possible,
after a mere 17 years of
university democracy, to
create in Holland - even
though it is "a country much
like Laputa", to vary Dr.
Gulliver - such a perfect
system for reaching human
happiness and knowledge as
that of Lindalino. [25]
Even so,
the write is much satisfied
that the wise policies of the
Board of Directors of the
University of Amsterdam, and
the fractions Progressve
Personnel and Asva, have
produced a university that
although it is not yet ideal
does tend in the limit to the
practices of that miraculous
people about whom Dr. Gulliver
has, alas impartially, has
enlightened mankind: Yahooism
with a human face. [26]

3. Notes to "Yahooism and democracy"
[0]
This is historically accurate, as the phrase
is: Mr. Vangrult did so, according to Jonathan Swift, some
of whose anthropological studies can be
found under the link and here: Voyage
IV and
A Modest Proposal. Enjoy!
Back.
[1]
The standard Dutch abbreviation for the "University
of Amsterdam" is "UvA".
Back
[2]
And thus it seems to be at some other places
where humans live, as well. Back
[3]
This is more or less what Aristotle
thought, and what is also expounded, in
particular, and for socialist and communist
thinking, that were the ruling ideologies in
the UvA from 1971-1995, the UvA's socialist
Soviet-years, in Talmon's "The
Origins of Totalitarian Democracy".
See also the lemmata "Totalitarian"
and "Toleration"
in my
Philosophical Dictionary; Robert
Conquest's "The Great Terror";
Anne
Applebaum's "Gulag"; and
Simon Leys "L'Armée des Ombres".
Back
[4]
For those with a postmodern education: Freud
was a psychiatrist, Kant a philosopher, and
I think about their teachings more or less
as indicated, though have to add in fairness
that Kant meant well. Back
[5]
Indeed, I think only a small part of modern
academic philosophy has any positive value.
Back
[6]
Here I vary
Hume a little. Back
[*7*] This is more or
less literally (!) the core ideology
of the academic left as taught in the UvA
between, at least, 1980 and 1990. The first
is postmodernism's
central thesis, and is the end of all
rational reasoning; the second is a key
leftist piece of wishful
thinking and
propaganda, that confuses
equality for the law and equality
of all, which of course feels
very pleasant for the majority without any
remarkable talent, and builds great
self-respect in this class of people; the
third was insisted on because all morals are
relative and socialism, as especially in
Cuba, a holy country at the UvA from
1971-1995, should - at least! - be
regarded as equally good and valuable as the
Dutch experiment in society-building. All
students were taught so from 1971-1995 at
the UvA, with considerable support of most
(and for the reasons why see: "Mandarins
with an IQ of 115"). Back
[8] And this states
fairly precisely some of the reasons why the
teachings I enumerated have been very
popular, indeed mostly so in France and
Holland. (Althusser! Foucault! Derrida!
Lacan! Deleuze! Kristeva! My generation of
academically qualified present professors
and lecturers in philosophy, sociology,
political sciences, pedagogy, literature,
anthropology, Dutch literature and similar
studies have lapped it up as if this
was the very nectar by and for the gods! For
more, see the Sokal-affair.)
Back
[9] This states fairly
precisely a dominant reason why
these teachings were so popular: Academic
status, incomes and degrees for just any
idiot, provided he or she gave all
the
Politically Correct answers. And thus
it happened, in the Dutch universities, from
1971-1995. (Being a fairminded man, I remark
that in studies for which real
talent is required, matters were less
bad - though of course, such studies not
being prominent in nor really fit for
spreading the UvA-ideology, the political
bosses of the UvA did not have much
subsidies for them: These went into
Emancipation, especially.) Back
[10] As it happens, I
have this perversion, that was most
unpopular in the UvA from 1971-1995. Note
that even most of those who agreed with me
that real science and good universities were
quite other than what was on offer in the
UvA deplored that I was so critical, and
showed so little respect. (This is
indeed what
all right thinking Muscovites felt around
1937, also. The stuff most men are
made of is collaborative.) Back
[*11*] I have earlier
written about my predictive abilities
(intelligence is foresight, as the saying
goes), and here I very adequately foresaw
the key-theses of professor
Simon Wessely's and
professors Jos van der Meer en Ger
Bleijenberg's teachings. And I should
stress that the present piece of foresight
is less of an achievement, since psychiatric
fraudulence has been exposed on similar
lines before, e.g. by
McCulloch and Grünbaum:
It's
pseudoscience and its main perpetrators
and creators probably know this,
just as they know that mundus vult
decipi. Back
[12] Of course, the
Dutch left all claim to be humanists,
conveniently forgetting or perhaps slyly
remembering the dear Jean-Paul Sartre's "There
are no concentration camps in the Soviet
Union, for socialism is humanism.")
Back
[13] One of the things I
had in mind here is that in the 1980-ies
literally millions of Dutchmen were
convinced that The Netherlands was a most
exemplary country, that showed the world
leadership in many kinds of ways:
Environmentally, socially, legally,
institutionally, as regards women's and
gays' rights, and especially as regards
atomic weapons, that were to be thrown out
of Holland (Volkel), England (Greenham
Commons), Europe and the world, all under
the leadership of the Dutch Labour leader I
pronounce in English as Quim Cock (aka Wim
Kok), and financed by An Action Group that
later was shown to be funded via the
KGB.
Yes, indeed - and Quim Cock presently is a
very rich commissioner in many Dutch banks,
firms and institutions, and the most
honourable of Dutchmen, and one of the main
protectors of the Dutch drugsmafia during
all his years of climbing upwards as A True
Socialist In Heart And Kidneys (as the Dutch
idiom has it, that Dutchmen invariably use
in these contexts, as if being braindead
comes with Dutchness, statistically
speaking) towards his present eminence of
stinking rich commissioner, board member and
what not in the best paying, most powerful
Dutch capitalist institutions. Back
[14] I refer to Goffman
reveals all (nearly) - Groups &
Groupthinking; my
most excellent Dutch Instructions How To
Become A Dutch Top Bureaucrat;
and my Dutch explanation What
is (personal) civilisation? (that
has the great merit of making clear why only
a handful of modern Dutchmen have
it). Back
[15] As is wholly true,
of the vast majority of the living
academically titled Dutchmen: There is no
way to get thus far in Holland by any other
means, unless you are family of a celeb or a
political boss, in which case you will get
positions and titles automatically. (And
this extends to all levels of
governance in Holland: To become someone you
have to know and please someone who already
has become someone, and be patronised to
prominence. On personal merit alone, you
will not make it, outside a few rare things
like chess.) Back
[16] Numerically and
proportionally, that is again mostly
correct: By far the most students then, and
even more now, took studies in soft
sciences, that mostly had very little to do
with real
science, and did not demand anything
special in the way of intelligence, talent
or interest. Back
And as the universities got subsidized in
ratio to the number of academic diplomas
produced (!!), every student could count on
great leniency from the side of the
university (provided he or she was
suitably Politically Correct and thankful,
of course, as nearly everyone was. See: "Mandarins
with an IQ of 115").
Back
[17] This is literally
what was said, over and again, in the
University Parliament, as soon as there was
talk of real sciences like mathematics or
physics. It seems the main reason they were
not abolished altogether was that there were
some professors with an international
reputation in their fields, which again
could also be used to get subsidies from the
government. Back
[18] Again, this is
mostly factually correct about the UvA.
There were many elections, there was hardly
any good teaching or education, and in fact
students of philosophy, sociology and
political sciences could get academic
coursepoints galore for squatting and/or
taking part in demonstrations and/or being
members of Action Groups.
Back
[19] Well... actually
almost every student was very contented for
getting an academic diploma that required
nearly fuck all, especially in the very
large faculties of Politicology, Sociology,
Andragology (a science created and since
disappeared in the UvA only: Study of man,
for the grossest of dummies, taught by their
peers), Pedagogy and Dutch
Studies.
And those who did get diplomas then became
professors, journalists, parliamentarians,
top bureaucrats etc. And still are.
See: "Mandarins
with an IQ of 115". Back
[20] Again, historically
quite true, except for the fact that the
student organization referred to was called
"Asva", but up to the fact that the academic
regulations and bylaws were changed to
enable one particular insane and
stupid Asva-chairperson (f) to get a degree,
at long last, in pedagogy I think it
was. Back
[21] And yet again
historically correct, apart from the
stadium. But there were many demonstrations
in Amsterdam in the 1980-ies, and they
conformed to my description. Back
[22] Actually, again
true in Holland: A human's life, health etc.
is hardly worth anything, also in law.
Personal damages, also if proved legally,
are hardly worth a thing in Dutch courts, on
the Dutch moral and legal principle that it
is your personal responsibility if
somebody else invalidates you for life
through negligence. "We don't want this
crazy US claims culture!", lawyers and
judges call out proudly, knowing that the
chance is small they will get
invalidated for life through
negligence. Back
[23] This is quite a
good and true description of the average
Dutchman's outlook, especially in the
1980ies and 1990ies, since when average
cloggies have turned proudly xenophobic.
Some of the reasons for this are the average
Dutch intelligence anyway, next to
the excellence of its schools. Back
[24] Again, as true a
description of my native country during my
life as you'll ever find. Back
[25] In 2008,
at long last, after years and years of
first year students in university of 18 or
19 who couldn't spell, couldn't do basic
arithmetics, didn't know any history, and
had only read comics, a parliamentary
commission investigated the matter and found
that matters were as I had been saying since
1977, for which reason I had been
removed three times from the UvA, while
being an invalid also (a fact the Board of
Directors loved to stress sadistically).
Conveniently, everyone forgot about me,
could not find my sites, never heard of me,
did not read me, stopped reading me because
you are disrespectful, etcetera.
Labour Parliamentarian Jeroen Dijsselbloem,
in his mid thirties, got all the acclaim and
kudos, from his friends in the media, and
has been set up or life as A Thinker and A
Political Leader of great eminence
and prominence, and since lives happily and
healthily in his free standing ancient house
in Gouda.
And that's why Why my
family was in The Dutch
Resistance in WW II, next
to their desire to have the drugsmafia
take over Amsterdam, in the guise of
Labour mayors with ideals derived verbally
and publicly from what my parents and
grandparents dare do. (And be realistic,
mate: Between 1940 and 1945 there were 10
millioen Dutchmen, of whom more than 1% was
razziaed and gassed, and there were 3000
people in resistance; in 1985 there were 16
million Dutchmen, at most 6000 who would
have mostly agreed with me ("apart from your
language"). See the next note for a
relevant reference. Back
[26] For the
postmodernistically educated: Chechoslovakia
under Dubcek claimed to be heading for
"Socialism with a human face". The root
cause though, and not only in
Chechoslovakia, is as I formulate it: Human
civilization as is, on average. And see my
On
a fundamental problem in ethics
and morals.
Back
P.S. By this time,
the more intelligent foreigner will have
understood why I do not fit among the
Dutch - which clearly is my fault, of
course, in typically Dutch moral thinking: I lack
respect, and more especially I lack
respect for the liars, impostures and whores
of reason who destroyed most of what was left
of real civilization in Holland, and ruined
nearly all decent education, and killed the
universities. One has to speakly nicely to
such persons, show them respect, speak of "on
the one hand" and "on the other hand", and
also use their very own efficient, transparent
postmodern cant, senseless bullshit and
Politically Correct lying redefinitions. Of
course!
Anyway... those who are looking forward
fondly and impatiently to my notes to Real
science & real psychology = joy,
especially after having read Mandarins
with an IQ of 115, have to have a
little more patience, once again. But I did
the notes for today, so those who care should
be thankful. And, indeed I may translate another
one or two first, before arriving at my notes
to Real
science etc!
If and when I do, my reason is to anticipate
on a true public publicatory slashing of many
incompetents who destroyed my chances
and who wilfully ruined my life and
who intentionally caused over 20
years of nearly continuous pain, because
they personally chose, as
Revolutionary Students or staff, or as corrupt
Labour Party topdogs, to be whores of reason
and parasites in the universities,
while being evidently intellectually
incompetent but also being incredibly greedy,
phony and hypocritical, or else because they personally
chose, as corrupt Labour Party topdogs,
to serve the Amsterdam drugsmafia rather
