Introduction: 

This is a Nederlog of Tuesday, October 18, 2016.

A. This is not a crisis log but data that I wrote down on 28.xii.1986. I know that is nearly 30 years ago, but they are fairly precise, and between 1984 and 1988 I did very well on what I took. And there are also data on my girlfriend at that time. And the present Nederlog is a supplement to the Nederlog of October 30, 2014.

Also, the data I give for me are typical for what I took between 1983 and 1992, while the amounts I took since around 2000 are a bit less, but comparable. So this is rather decent information on the supplements I have been taking for 33 years now. There will be some more on vitamins later on, and there also will be another Nederlog for today on the crisis later today.

B. In case you visit my Dutch site: I do not know, but it may be you need to click/reload twice or more to see any changes I have made. This certainly held for me, but it is possible this was caused by the fact that I am also writing it from my computer.

In any case, I am now (again) updating the opening of my site with the last day it was updated. (And I am very sorry if you have to click/reload several times to see the last update: It is not what I wish, nor how it was. [1]

C. In case you visit my Danish site: It now works again (!), but I do not know how long it will keep working. The Dutch site still is a mess (but wasn't on Oct 15).

I am very sorry, and none of it is due to me. I am simply doing the same things as I did for 20 or for 12 years, that also went well for 20 or for 12 years.

I will keep this introduction until I get three successive days (!!!) in which both providers work correctly. I have not seen that for many months now.

1. The data

More interpretations below. The first column indicates the vitamins or minerals; M is me and J is Jolanda, and the other 7 columns are the names of writers of books on vitamins I had by then (end of 1986). Also, the reader should realize the data for M and J are averages (but pretty correct) and are nearly all in milligrams. No data are indicated by no entry.

Unfortunately, both MB ("Mega B") and AS ("All Sports") cannot be bought anymore in 2016 (and since quite a while). Also, in the above list vitamin C was absent and probably amounted to 500 mg. Since the late 90ies I took 2 - 5 grams a day, depending (and still do).

2. The interpretation

A. The persons


M took vitamins because I was ill since 1.i.1979 (8 years, in 1986). In 1986 I still did not know what I had. I did learn this in 1988/89: M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis). The reason I had started on this in the Spring of 1983 is that I got a lot more energy when I first took rather large amounts of B vitamins and of E, and this was the first thing that helped in five years of illness.

J took vitamins since about 9 months and did so because she was schizophrenic (according to herself, myself, and several medical people, including psychiatrists and psychologists) while I knew that Pauling had a theory that especially large doses of vitamin B3 were helpful against schizophrenia. I do not know whether this helped, but I do know that by 1987 she studied psychology; by 1990 she got a job in the University of Amsterdam; by 1994 she got an M.A. in psychology, and by 1998 a doctorate in psychology.

B. The books/authors

I did have more books on vitamins by the end of 1986: The above is a choice. Also, since it is 30 years ago (in 2016, when I write this) I do not know most of the titles anymore. But here are some specifics:

Hendler was a medical man who did not believe in megadoses of vitamins, which also means that his recommended doses are mostly the normal ones (which are considerably lower than recommended by others: see above).

Pauling is the person (a genius, according to very many) who was one of the first to take much larger doses of vitamins, and who popularized their use. The numbers I give are based on his book "How to feel better and live longer".

P&S = Pearson and Shaw are the authors of "Life Extension: A Practical Scientific Approach" and of "The Life Extension Companion". The first is "P&S 1", the second "P&S 2".

The other three authors are medical people who were in favor of large doses of vitamins.

C. The numbers

Most of the numbers may be familiar in case you take megadoses of vitamins. They certainly are familiar to me, because I have been taking
megadoses of vitamins since 1983.

I should add that I have done quite a few experiments with them; varied the amounts of the various vitamins rather a lot; and also have stopped wholly or partially quite a few times in the last 33 years.

Then again, one consistent finding was that I am better with megadoses of vitamins than without, though how much better differed rather a lot. Also, from 1988 till 1992 I slept extremely badly because I lived above illegal soft drugs dealers who were protected by the mayor and the police of Amsterdam, while I also lived within 15 meters of 4 terraces that were open, effectively, till 2 o'clock at night. This destroyed everything I had build up through the careful use of megadoses of vitamins from 1983 - 1988. (The illegal softdrugs dealers are still there, but happily I moved in 1992.)

All of the numbers make sense to me, but I should add that (i) I removed one item, "FC", because I do not know what that stood for, and (ii) there are some 8 entries more in the original of the list I copied above, but I did not copy them (a) because they come as a matter of course with orthomolecular dosages of the B-vitamins, and (b) because I do not think they are relevant to my health.

D. The duration

The original I partially copied above is dated 28.xii.1986. I am not certain amounts like the above were taken by me and Jolanda in 1986 and 1987, but I am almost certain both of us took megavitamins both of these years, and in fact till 1992 and rather certain that the rest of the data for these years - 1986-1992 - are rather like the above.

Also, I took large doses of vitamins after 1992 and till now (2016) but not as much as I took between 1983 and 1992, mostly because there are no dosages as large as I took in those years.

E. Why I take large amounts of vitamins

I take large amounts of vitamins for two reasons:

One. Large amounts of vitamins are the only thing that has helped me, in the 37 years my disease lasts (in 2016), apart from sleeping pills.
Two. I am taking them, also apart from the first reason, because they are the best way I know to make certain that my body does receive most that is needed to function as well as possible.

Also, I am quite certain of both reasons, indeed mostly because I wrote my autobiography and found out how much vitamins have helped me, also while nothing else I tried - many things - did help, in any way also (except for sleeping pills).

One of the problems with the disease I have is that it cannot be established with ordinary medicine: According to the medics "nothing is the matter with you" for 37 years now (while I feel ill and cannot walk more than 500 to 1500 meters - and I am a psychologist who got his degree with straight As, so it is not as if I could not find well-paying work if I were healthy). In any case, this was the consistent fact when tested by medical people, also with and without vitamins: "we cannot find anything".

And apart from that: In 1993 my age was estimated by many people as between 23 and 28. In fact I was 43. And at present, when I am 66, I still look as if I am in my forties. And I have not been ill at all (flues etc.) since 40 years now (apart from some problems with my bladder, that were due to peritonitis (<- Wikipedia) in 1988).

There are two explanations for these facts. The first is that many people take large doses of vitamins to extend their lives. I never did so, but I did take large doses of vitamins for half my life now (from 33 till 66). The other reason is genetical: I may have genes that keep me looking much younger than I am.

Notes
[1] Alas, this is precisely as I said it does, and it goes on for months now. I do not know who does it, and I refuse to call the liars of "xs4all"(really: the KPN), simply because these have been lying to me from 2002-2009, and I do not trust anything they say I cannot control myself: They have treated me for seven years as a liar because "you complain about things other people do not complain about" (which is the perfect excuse never to do anything whatsoever for anyone).
