me+ME: PACE The Big Lie

"The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous."

I am not at all well, because I don't sleep well because of what my dysfunctional brain these more than 32 years of ME maintains is pain, that I cannot possibly have - except in my dysfunctional imagination - according to professors White, Sharpe and Chalder, whose careers, personal well-being and status depend on maintaining that someone like me, who has a disease that is not yet understood, for that very reason has no disease - and therefore, in the opinion professors White, Sharpe and Chalder, must have a dysfunctional brain, that madly imagines itself in pain, while White, Chalder and Sharpe have been spinning this story to the world for over two decades now that persons like me are just making up things or imagining things, in my case since over 32 years, with the best possible MA-degree in psychology.

Here is their very own recipe, from a man I have learned in the University of Amsterdam is their exact human equivalent, according to Dutch norms also sanctioned by the Dutch parliaments and governments since more than four decades now, and whose equivalent assistant, who clearly must have been a constant inspiration for messrs. Wessely, White, Sharpe and ms. Chalder, and others of similar education, outlook and interests in life, since they have practised the lessons and examples of these men with great personal success and deep personal satisfaction for over two decades now (*):

All this was inspired by the principle--which is quite true within itself--that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.

To the point, which is this:

Mr. David Tuller published last week a fine piece in the New Tork Times about ME/CFS and the way the research has been systematically fucked up - purposively: these folks know what they are doing, and love doing it - by the pseudoscience emanating from the English professors White, Wessely, Sharpe and Chalder, who for more than twenty years have refused to follow proper scientific procedure in their so-called "evidence based medicinal studies", by the following trick - and I quote myself from March 13 and before - and PACE is the latest bit of pseudoscientific psychobabble:

The whole PACE-rot is what one gets if one "researches" all "fatigued" individuals as if they suffer from the same disease, conveniently labelled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, in wilfull denial of the WHO, that calls it ME since 1969, and insists it is a neurological disease, and then applies the results to a subgroup with a serious neurological disease.

This is pure fraudulence, pure pseudoscience, and it has been done and is being done on purpose. See: On natural philosophy, philosophy of science, and psychiatry, in particular the end: Psychiatry is pseudoscience since its inception, and the reason is that there just is not the requisite knowledge of the brain to support almost any of it.

I really think that I know that the PACE-trials are pseudo-science, and intentionally so, by its English perpetrators: I know too much of philosophy of science, methodology, statistics and psychology to think otherwise: It is bullshit, the perpetrators know it is bullshit, but they publish it nevertheless as if it were science, because they can get away with - very few or none who have a career in science want to get entangled with this human type of malignancy, for it would risk their own careers - and because they are the type of persons that glorifies in the miseries and pains of others:

"The mild and the long-suffering may suffer forever in this world. As long as the patient will suffer, the cruel will kick."
     -- Sidney Smith

When a White, a Chalder and a Sharpe gets a chance to kick tyhe long-suffering, they will do it, for they are - I say it as a psychologist - this manner of persons.

In proof of which is here their letter to the NYT, the text in blue, my comments indented in black:

Studying a Fatigue Illness (1 Letter)

To the Editor:

In “Defining an Illness Is Fodder for Debate” (March 8), your reporter David Tuller correctly noted that the way an illness is defined can often determine what is found in studies of it. He also suggested that this problem of definition had limited the interpretation of our trial of treatments for chronic fatigue syndrome, published recently in The Lancet. That is not the case.

They are lying and know they are lying, and also give no evidence nor reasons.

The patients in this trial had a disabling chronic illness in which fatigue was their main symptom

This is a lie: The symptomatology is described for laymen here: Canada Clinical Consensus definition of ME/CFS for laymen,  and for medical professionsals here, but these three liars who love to torment ill people via their publications since decades do not even mention any biomedical research by real scientists of ME/CFS. They lie all the time, and while lying lie that they don't lie, and manage for dismiss, not mention, discard, bury or keep secret all the evidence they are lying: See my Williams vs White + Feynman vs Wessely

and for which no alternative had been found; that is the definition of the syndrome used in Britain.

And it is a false, misleading, unscientific and irrational definition, that is inconsistent with that of the World Health Organization and at least 5000 papers of biomedical scientists over the last 55 years, and was apparently contrived on purpose to falsify a real disease without known aetiology into a psychiatric ailment these liars can make money from, and kicks out of:

"As long as the patient will suffer, the cruel will kick."
     -- Sidney Smith

But we also assessed trial participants to see if they met two other definitions of the illness that are favored by some scientists.

And they lied, and misrepresented, and even to this day have not published the raw data of the basis of their own lies an misrepresentations in the PACE-study

We found that both cognitive behavior therapy and graded exercise therapy, when added to specialist medical care, were most effective not only in the whole sample but also in the participants who met these alternative criteria.

That is a lie but a clever one, for the mechanism is as I described above: Their "sample" was very carefully selected to exclude everyone who showed evidence of ME/CFS as defined by the Canada Criterions and to include everyone with psychiatric complaints without any sign of disease - for these liars study the disease they call CFS and insist falsely is the same as ME by excluding from their samples everyone who shows evidence of being really ill.

These liars did not study patients with ME, like I have since 1.1.1979: They studied patients they made methodologically as sure as they could do not have ME, by insisting that the sample only includes persons without sign of non-psychiatric disease... and then presenting that as "evidence based medicine" that people with ME are not really ill but nuts, since they claim they feel ill.

In addition, these treatments were the most effective whether or not a patient was depressed,

If one has taken care, as White, Chalder and Sharpe did, that the group you researched consists of nutters, anything may be "proved" by "evidence based medicine".

Besides, persons who studied this pseudoscientific "research paper" more closely than I did say this too has been tricked, massaged, and padded with innuendo and propaganda-talk.

And since when are voodoo-"scientists" the right persons to objectively pronounce on the real biomedical science that would refute their lies if applied rationally?!

a not uncommon accompaniment to this chronic and misunderstood illness.

These types cannot forbear not to make any innuendo they can make - "As long as the patient will suffer, the cruel will kick." - but do not admit that this illness is misunderstood because they themselves have for over 20 years done their utmost to confuse its proper biomedical study and by insisting, without any rational evidence, it is not a real disease, and the WHO consists of incompetents or nutters compared with them, if they do not suggest the WHO consists of liars.

In any case: According to the WHO, to this day, ME/CFS is a neurological disease that is explicitly, since 1991, not psychiatric.

Psycho pseudoscientists in psychiatry like White, Chalder and Sharpe will never publicly admit it, if they can get away with it, just like astrologers do not want to have anything to do with real physicists, and conmen do not want to meet the police.

The trial also found that these treatments were safe so long as they were provided by appropriate therapists trained to help patients with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Another very crafty and very degenerate and immoral lie: What many thousands of patients with ME have insisted on since decades is that "these treatments", and especially forced exercise, are dangerous, painful and cause serious setbacks, for weeks, months or years.

The "appropriate therapists" envisaged by White, Chalder and Sharpe are their own henchmen, with their own hangups and desires: "As long as the patient will suffer, the cruel will kick".

So to Mr. Tuller’s question “Does the evidence from that study prove that these strategies would help patients identified as having chronic fatigue syndrome through very different criteria?,” the answer is “Yes, it does.”

Again, pseydoscientific types like White, Chalder and Sharpe - who most be mental cases themselves, since they insist without evidence that millions of ill people with ME are not really ill, but are mental - are just the type of voodoo-
"scientist" who insists that their voodoo will do better than real medical science.

Patients and their doctors now have robust evidence

This was probably one main reason for White, Chalder and Sharpe to write this: To once again affirm the thing that is not, namely that their pseudo-science constitutes "evidence" of any kind but that of scientific fraudulence, as indeed has been perpetrated ever since Charcot and Freud: See my More on Freud and psychiatry and Excellent reply by professor Hooper - 55 points, for here are 55 points liars and frauds like White, Sharpe and Chalder are will never publicly discuss with a scientifically qualified audience: Frauds like they are perpetrate their pseudo-science through the media.

that there are two safe treatments

To even suggest that Graduated Exercise Therapy is a "safe treatment" is, in view of the great variety of evidence by patients and by real medical scientists, fraudulent medical sadism of truly sickening dimensions, and is as honest about the "safe"ness of the treatment as the Nazis were about the healthiness of concentration-camps - "Arbeit macht frei!".

You do not force ill people to exercise, and if you try to do so nevertheless you ought to be in prison. Here is how the spinners of Fox "News" spun the news as White, Chalder and Sharpe want to see the news spun:

Pushing Limits Can Help Chronic Fatigue Patients

Helping chronic fatigue syndrome patients to push their limits and try to overcome the condition produces a better rate of recovery than getting them to accept the illness and adapt to a limited life, new research has found.

It's an untruth, but it is the kind of lie White, Sharpe and Chalder have been producing for two decades now - with which they also must have driven hundreds of Englishmen to suicide with: No help, no benefits, and an enormous amount of falsehoods about one's illness, while one is left to rot miserably, without help or money, all thanks to White, Chalder, Sharpe c.s.

that can improve both symptoms and quality of life, however the illness is defined.

Of course they can't forbear to appeal, like Stalin and Mao, like Beria and Kang Feng, to their enormously good intentions - and of course they lie, for their misdefinition of the disease was designed to keep them doing their whole lives what they evidently love most:

"As long as the patient will suffer, the cruel will kick."
     -- Sidney Smith

P. D. White

T. Chalder

M. Sharpe

London and Edinburgh

As Frankfurt said so well about the human, moral and intellectual type of these three:

"For the bullshitter (...) is neither on the side of the true nor on the side of the false. His eye is not on the facts at all, as the eyes of the honest man and of the liar are, except insofar as they may be pertinent to his interest in getting away with what he says. He does not care whether the things he says describe reality correctly. He just picks them out, or makes them up, to suit his purpose."
     -- Harry Frankfurt, "On Bullshit"

To the above text Mr. Tuller had an excellent reply in the NYT, as follows:

The writers are the principal investigators of the PACE trial.

David Tuller replies: The article asked whether findings among a population defined by one set of criteria would apply to populations defined by “very different criteria.” In this study, all participants were first defined, identified and selected not by different criteria but by the same criteria, the so-called Oxford criteria used in Britain. Subgroups within that already screened population who also meet secondary criteria are not easily compared to patients who have not been screened, since an unknown number who met the secondary criteria might not have met the study’s criteria for inclusion. The gold standard for making comparisons across groups of patients identified by three varying case definitions would be a study with three completely separate cohorts, not one large sample with two embedded subgroups.

I probably will return to this, for I would like to know from these people this

"Hey, hey, hey
How many men did you kill today?!"

and in the course of their careers: I sure would love to see "evidence based science" about this issue.

What number is it, in 20 years, Peter Denton White, Michael Sharpe, and Trudie Chalder:

The blood of how many English men, women and children are on your hands? Tens? Hundreds? Thousands? Give me some "evidence based medical science":

"Some kill with a sixgun
 Some with a fountain pen"
(After Woodie Guthrie, aka "This Machine Kills Fascists".)

How many?! How many?!

Note

(*) The writer of the opening quote is Joseph Goebbels; the writer of the text on the Big Lie is Adolf Hitler. It is the basis of both propaganda and advertisements, and it is the basis of such prose of professors Wessely, White, Chalder and Sharpe about ME/CFS - they call "chronic fatigue", much like Hitler and Goebbels called Jews "Untermenschen": These psychiatric pros seem to look upon patients with ME as Hitler and Goebbels looked upon Jews:

"The mild and the long-suffering may suffer forever in this world. As long as the patient will suffer, the cruel will kick."
     -- Sidney Smith

Incidentally, it is true that I learned by direct logical implicaton in the University of Amsterdam that Hitler and Goebbels are the exact human equivalent of White, Chalders, Sharpe and also Wessely, and indeed so were my very own father, grandfather and mother. I denied this myself in the University of Amsterdam because I believe my very own father, grandfather and mother were not - but in thanks for my protests I was removed from the University of Amsterdam "as a fascist and a terrorist" briefly before taking my MA in philosophy, because the Board of Directors at the time insisted that "all human beings are equivalent", from Einstein to Eichmann, from Mandela to White, from Sacharov to Wessely - all equivalent to Eichmann, to Hitler, to Goebbels, and indeed to others as well. (See Scientific Realism versus Postmodernism for the rationale of this Entwertung aller Werte: Bastards and conmen profit enormously by Big Lies.)

And no... I would not deny this equivalence with Nazis about either White, Chalder, Sharpe or Wessely nor about the Board of Directors of the UvA, though.

There are very evil men, and women too, and they usually do their evil with a public appeal to the noblest sounding reasons and motives, and insistence that they mean very well, and whoever says not is impolite, a liar or insane.

P.S. Whatever needs correction has to wait, and it may be that there is no Nederlog the coming days in view of my dysfunctional beliefs that I am very tired and in considerable pain the last days, probably for lack of sleep because of pain.

O, and professor Hooper on the PACE-trial is really very good.

"Ah me! alas, pain, pain ever, forever!

No change, no pause, no hope! Yet I endure.
I ask the Earth, have not the mountains felt?
I ask yon Heaven, the all-beholding Sun,
Has it not seen? The Sea, in storm or calm,
Heaven's ever-changing Shadow, spread below,
Have its deaf waves not heard my agony?
Ah me! alas, pain, pain ever, forever!
