ME + me :  On CDC-"science" - update

Note for Dutch readers:
Hillary Johnson's texts in Dutch

I am still not well at all etc. as before, but the discussion about the remaining as yet unpublished positive XMRV-study and about the CDC-"study" that was publish on July 1 continue.

There is an interesting bit by Mindy Kitei, who has interviewed the CDC-"scientists", and got some interesting answers. You find it under the link:

Although the gentlemen from the CDC say little and choose to not say a lot, what they do say is - in the present context, to be sure - quite interesting.

Here are two questions and answers (*):

CFS Central:
“Why did the CDC request the FDA/NIH study be put on hold pending more research?”

Dr. Steve Monroe, director of CDC’s division of High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology:
“When CDC, FDA, and NIH learned that separate studies had been conducted with differing results, a collective decision was made to try and account for these differences.”

That is on the line I suggested on July 2, viz.

it seems probable XMRV will be thoroughly researched, if necessary with government funding, if dr. Alter's study remains standing, as it likely will, just as it is not unlikely dr. Alter's present research is related to what the CDC did wrong, so as to be able to avoid those mistakes in the future.

Even so "collective decision" is a very vague, yea to speak PC: inappropriate, term here, but then I can understand why Dr. Monroe might feel rather disenchanted, with research from other government institutions clearly implying that the research from his institution was and is worthless, as real science.

Here is a second bit, that completely supports what I wrote yesterday in ME + me :  On CDC-"science" (and yes: the link should clarify things for you, if you haven't read it already) and on July 2, especially in The Logic Of CDC|KCL|Radboud Research Fully Explained:

CFS Central: “According to your paper, the CDC used the ‘revised Fukuda’ AKA Empiric definition of CFS…. The CDC study cohort, as defined by the Empiric definition, includes many people who are simply depressed and tired but do not have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. How can this CDC cohort be valid if it includes people who are just tired and depressed?”

Monroe:
“All subjects in the study met the 1994 International Research Case Definition for CFS. One aspect of the definition is its ability to distinguish between subjects who may suffer from CFS symptoms, such as tiredness or depression, but do not have CFS.  CDC used samples from CFS subjects who fully met the 1994 case definition and healthy controls that were collected from two previous population-based studies in Wichita, Kansas and metropolitan, urban and rural populations in Georgia. In addition, CFS patients from the CDC Health Care Provider-based Registry of Unexplained Fatiguing Illnesses and CFS were included.

Being in a mellow if satirical mood, I am willing to assume - for the moment - that dr. Monroe himself means well and did nothing wrong, and like to point out that really all it need take to do the sort of trickery I described is that the noble dr. Bill Reeves no doubt is the main responsible guy for the switching con game the CDC so clearly seems to have been playing for decades, as explained briefly and clearly in ME + me :  On CDC-"science".

However... dr. Monroe either disdains or forgot to explain why the CDC did not use the Canadian Consensus Government Report on ME (with a clear explanation for layman here: Canadian Criterions Overview), since these are both 7 years more recent than what the CDC-folks used, and were written by people far more clued up than CDC-folks.

And in order to show what CDC-folks are like, here is part of a rather sick and sadistic verbal CDC-satire on patients with ME, that was written by some clearly honourable and o so very witty CDC-employee(s) whose name(s) history sofar has not revealed, that might show the reader what manner of mindset these CDC-folks have, as medical doctors and research scientists too:

The whole document is under the present link, in PDF, and I found it at Hillary Johnson's excellent website, where you can read more on the folks, policies, mindsets, honesty and integrity of the CDC through the decades here:

And it does provide a clear motive for the CDC's action through the decades:

Do everything to make it impossible for persons with ME to get social security benefits or any medical assistance they can't pay themselves; denigrate and defame them; make fun of their illness, their problems and their letters; and rest confident that never, never, never A Government Employee can be made personally responsible for anything he or she does or fails to do.

They were - in part at least - very willing apparatchiks out to keep the government rich through denying ill people the rights and benefits and treatments they should receive.

At present, it remains to be seen if XMRV stands up in dr. Alter's research, and especially if XMRV does play a causal role in ME/CFS, but if this research holds, there seem to me to be excellent human, moral and legal reasons to get quite a few (former) CDC-executives to court, e.g. to have the asked in publi, preferably by an expert or informed lawyer, why they chose to produce decades of pseudo-science.

P.S. It's a bit cooler here in Amsterdam where I write this, and there probably will be another Nederlog today, that is not directly concerned with ME but that does explain quite a few things about the politics around it (indirectly) and indeed also about American politics, the media, and how to lie in public and get famous with it.

The generally best source of what is and has been wrong with the CDC is Hillary Johnson's excellent website on which there now is a special section for Dutch readers appropriately called

In fact, there is now more, viz. the very recent already translated

which is about the positive XMRV study of dr. Alter and the politics around that.

So, even while the Dutchmen educated after me never properly learned to write, read, reckon, think or most anything else, other than hypocritical displays of respect to all and any that has a human shape or form, they should be thankful that someone has taken the trouble to keep them quite update, without having to read difficult foreign languages they were told they needn't really learn "because you can now find everything on the internet!" See my Spiegeloog-columns, that what with Wilders and 1.5 million other proto-fascists ("these muslims must be locked up in camps") can be seen to have beem most prophetic indeed:

Readers of Dutch should be able to deduce with mathematical certainty the causes and reasons for my being not allowed to take the Ph.D., in spite of having the best possible M.A., and in spite - or rather: because - of being removed three times from the University of Amsterdam for truly prophetic publications as just displayed, and also why for me there is no help whatsoever, and indeed a good chance of ending up in a Dutch concentration-camp for the third successive generation in my family, what with 1.5 million moronified cloggies desiring that, of folks not quite like themselves, and especially if smarter than them (which in fact is lamentably easy, and needs no effort at all).

Blessed are the mediocre, for they shall inherit the earth, as the prophet should have said, but then I merely report truly, also for Dutchies.

O, as to the Dutch average academic and his/her intellect:

I should have written "115" instead of "118", but was -as was usually the case - falsely informed in the University of Amsterdam about this. Meanwhile, it seems to have sunk to around 105, allowing - as is the fact - half of ALL Dutchmen of the right age, to become An Academic Bachelor Of Science in e.g. pop music with a minor in freedom theology, or freedom theology with a minor in sports, all educated by such fine academic Dutch minds as the former phony "Marxist Revolutionary" prof.dr. Rene Boomkens, the Glenn Beck of Dutch philosophy, and the former phony "Marxist Revolutionary" prof.dr. Paul Scheffer, the Rush Limbaugh of multi-culty hypocrisy.

And indeed it should be said, honestly and in all fairness, and with due humble recognition of their talents and morality, that both named Dutch professors have about half of Glenn Beck's intelligence, scholarship, and writing abilities, but all of his moral integrity.

P.P.S. It may be I have to stop Nederlog for a while. The reason is that I am physically not well at all, and it seems a heath-wave is coming, which is the type of weather I can't handle well. I don't know yet, but if there is no Nederlog, now you know the reason.

"Ah me! alas, pain, pain ever, forever!

No change, no pause, no hope! Yet I endure.
I ask the Earth, have not the mountains felt?
I ask yon Heaven, the all-beholding Sun,
Has it not seen? The Sea, in storm or calm,
Heaven's ever-changing Shadow, spread below,
Have its deaf waves not heard my agony?
Ah me! alas, pain, pain ever, forever!

(*) Mindy Kitei is a journalist, who may hope to make a book from what is and will be on her site - which indeed is what I hope if she continues as she started. She also has imposed limits on what others can copy from her site, which I intend to follow - for the most part, and unless she produces material I think needs an answer such as I can write very well. But I do agree that in principle what people write, if it originates with them, and is not mere quotation of others, is their intellectual property, and they should be given the right to dispose over it, within fair limits.
